Virginia Wesleyan Stays Alive

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 26) – Hanna Hull pitched a three-hit shutout and top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan stayed alive in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals with a 2-0 elimination-game victory over Trine Friday afternoon at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.

The Marlins bounced back from a 4-1 loss to defending champion Texas-Tyler in Thursday’s first round and moved on to another elimination game Saturday at 4 p.m. against the loser of the Illinois Wesleyan-St. John Fisher contest.  The Thunder saw their season end at 37-10.

Hull struck out 10 and walked just one in tossing her 20th complete game.  It was the 14th shutout for the freshman sensation, who improved to 30-3.

VWC scored the only two runs it needed in the fourth when it collected three of its four hits in the game.  Cassetty Howerin walked to lead off the inning and went to third on Blake Henderson’s double to left field before breaking the scoreless tie on Teresa Cardamone’s single to center field that moved Henderson to third.

Madison Glaubke laid down a perfect bunt one out later to plate Henderson and make it 2-0.  Hull made sure it stayed that way.
