Texas-Tyler Rolls Into the Semi Finals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 26) – Kaylee Prather and Cheyenne Thompson had two hits apiece in a big first-inning uprising that put Texas-Tyler in early control and the defending national champion Patriots went on to throttle Amherst 13-0 in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals Friday evening at ASA Hall of Fame Complex.

No. 4-ranked UTT (46-4) scored eight runs in the top of the first, added three more in the second and coasted from there in advancing to Sunday’s winner’s bracket finals against an opponent to be determined.  The Mammoths fell to 34-11 and will face Williams in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Patriots used five hits, three hit batters, two errors and a walk to score their eight first-inning runs.  Thompson had a pair of run-scoring singles, while Prather and Bianca Van Vlerah added RBI singles as 12 batters went to the plate.

Four walks gave UTT another run in the second before Thompson plated two more with a single as the Patriots went up 11-0 and Thompson continued her rampage with a two-run single in the fourth to complete the scoring.

Thompson and Prather finished with three hits each, combining for six of UTT’s seven.  The Patriots were also issued eight walks and had four hit batters.

Alaina Kissinger earned the pitching win, scattering four hits.  She struck out four and didn’t walk a batter in improving to 26-2.
