2009 SONIC ALL-COLLEGE BASKETBALL CLASSIC

The 74th Annual Sonic All-College Basketball Classic, hosted by the Oklahoma City All Sports Association will feature the University of Oklahoma Sooners taking on the Miners from the University of Texas at El Paso at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Oklahoma State University Cowboys versus the La Salle Explorers at 7:30 p.m. on December 21. Both games will be televised on ESPN2.

The Sonic All-College Basketball Classic is the world’s oldest basketball tournament, outdating even the NCAA, NIT, NAIA and the NBA tournaments. The All-College Basketball Classic has been exciting Oklahoma sports fans for years.Tickets for the tournament are priced at $67, $57, $42, $32, $22 and $12.

The classic will be accompanied by the return of the Basketball Adventure, which will take place in the Cox Business Services Convention Center.  This is an interactive free family basketball festival that will include food, entertainment, basketball clinics and more on December 21.

The All-College Players’ Dinner on December 20 will begin the classic.  This is a banquet held to honor the teams playing in the classic and their coaches.

2008 ALL-COLLEGE RECAP


The 73rd Annual All-College Basketball Classic, hosted by the Oklahoma City All Sports Association, was another successful event Saturday, as Oklahoma State beat Rhode Island, 86-82, in the Pete Maravich game, while Oklahoma defeated Virginia Commonwealth , 81-70, in the Bill Russell game.

The highlights of the event came from Oklahoma State sophomore James Anderson, who led all All-College scorers with 33 points.

“I had a big shooting night,” Anderson said. “I felt like I could have thrown it from the other end and it would have gone in.”

Anderson’s performance was complimented with a 22-point outing by senior Byron Eaton. Rhode Island’s scoring effort was led by senior Kahiem Seawright, who finished with 17 points.

The second game of the night, named for All-College great Bill Russell, also featured high-scorer, as Oklahoma junior Tony Crocker led all scorers with 26 points.

“When you have a great game and you win, that always feels good,” Crocker said.

This year’s All-Classic team, which is voted on by the media in attendance at the event, was made up of  James Anderson of Oklahoma State University, Tony Crocker of the University of Oklahoma, Blake Griffin of the University of Oklahoma, Bradford Burgess of Virginia Commonwealth University, and Kahiem Seawright of the University of Rhode Island. 

James Anderson was voted the most valuable player of the Pete Maravich game, while Tony Crocker earned the honor in the Bill Russell game.

A staple of the Oklahoma City sports scene, the All-College Basketball Classic has been exciting Oklahoma sports fans for years. All Sports will host the event in December 2009 and continue a tradition that has become part of Oklahoma City.
